Privacy Policy

Your learning stays yours. Moku does not require an account, include advertising or tracking, or send your study data to servers operated by us.
Information stored by Moku
Moku stores the information needed to provide the app on your device. This may include:
- decks, questions, answers, and other study content you create or import;
- review history, schedules, streaks, goals, and study statistics; and
- app preferences, reminder settings, and basic setup state.
We do not receive this information and do not use it for advertising, profiling, or tracking.
Imports, exports, and backups
When you choose a file to import, Moku reads that file on your device. Moku cannot access files you have not selected. When you export a backup, you choose where the file is saved and remain in control of it.
Depending on the features available in your version of Moku and your device settings, backups may be stored in your iCloud Drive. Apple may also include local app data in an iPhone or iPad device backup. These services are provided by Apple under your Apple Account. We do not operate a server that receives these backups and cannot access your iCloud account.
Exported backups contain your study content and history. Store them somewhere you trust.
Discover
The Discover tab shows a list of decks. Moku fetches that list, and any deck you choose to install from it, from s.moku.tadas.me, a file host we operate on Amazon CloudFront. These are ordinary downloads of the same files for every user: they carry no account, no identifier, and nothing about your library or your study history. Access logging is turned off on that host, so we do not keep a record of who requested what. If the list cannot be fetched, Moku falls back to a copy stored inside the app, so Discover works offline.
Discover also links to decks shared by the Anki community. Opening one shows the AnkiWeb page inside Moku using Apple’s in-app browser, and searching runs a web query through DuckDuckGo. Those pages are provided by AnkiWeb and DuckDuckGo, not by us; while you are on them, their own privacy policies apply and we cannot see what you do there. Downloading a deck from AnkiWeb and opening it in Moku imports it the same way as any other file.
Moku links to community decks rather than redistributing them, and the decks Moku publishes itself are hosted as described above.
Apple Watch
If you use the Apple Watch companion, Moku transfers a limited queue of due study content and scheduling information from your paired iPhone to your Apple Watch. Review results are transferred back to the paired iPhone. This communication uses Apple’s Watch Connectivity service and is not sent to servers operated by us.
Notifications
If you enable study reminders, Moku schedules notifications locally through Apple’s notification system. Moku does not use reminders to track you or send your study activity to us.
Analytics, advertising, and tracking
Moku does not include third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. We do not sell or share your personal information and do not track you across apps or websites.
Apple may process App Store, iCloud, device backup, notification, crash, or diagnostic information according to your device settings and Apple’s Privacy Policy.
Support emails
If you contact us for support, we receive your email address and anything you include in your message. We use that information only to respond, investigate the issue, and maintain the support conversation. Please do not include sensitive study content unless it is necessary for your request.
Data retention and deletion
Your study data remains on your devices until you remove it. Deleting Moku removes its local study data from that device. Files you exported and copies stored by Apple or another storage provider must be deleted separately through that provider.
Support emails are kept only as long as reasonably needed to provide support and maintain a record of the conversation.
Children’s privacy
Moku is a general-purpose learning tool. Because we do not collect study data or require an account, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when Moku’s features or privacy practices change. The latest version will always be posted on this page, with the updated date shown above.
